Shining Light Ministries alcohol and drug treatment home
Opening a pathway to recovery and freedom for women
whose lives have been ruined by addictions and low self worth
Shining Light House
Shining Light Ministries began as a vision. Teresa Bestwick, the Founder and Executive Director has been in recovery for the past sixteen years. She was addicted to everything from crack cocaine to heroin as well as pain killers and alcohol. When she was at the end of her rope and suicide seemed like her only alternative, Teresa found Alcoholics Anonymous.

It was there that she learned the tools to live life without drugs and alcohol. As a result of working the twelve steps, Teresa rediscovered the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. While attending church, AA meetings, and speaking to inmates in the Henry County Jail, she realized that the women had no place to go to recover. They were being sent to prison or put back on the streets to continue their self-destructive cycle. When leaving the jail one evening, Teresa found a young girl sitting on the curb. She had just been released from jail. Teresa asked her what would she do and the frail girl replied, “Go back to the dope man and die with a broken heart.”

Teresa needed to find a place where women could go and learn about addiction but also be taught how to hold their head high and heal from past hurts. In January 2007, Shining Light Ministries, Inc. became the first zoned recovery center in Henry County. We work closely with the McDonough Probation officers, Henry County Jail, IDTC Committee and countless others to ensure that we continue to help women of Henry County that desperately need treatment.
